Born on January 2, 1836 to Fanny and high chief George Na’ea, Emma grew up speaking both English and Hawaiian. She was a beautiful young woman and an accomplished vocalist, dancer and pianist. The wife of King Kamehameha IV, Queen Emma was known and loved for her humanitarianism. She established Queen’s Hospital on Oahu to combat the foreign diseases that threatened the Hawaiian people. Emma left in trust 13,000 acres on the Big Island and Oahu.
