Daughter of a noble named Kapaakea and his wife Keohokalole. Lili`uokalani was born on September 2, 1838 and was the last ruling monarch of the Hawaiian Islands. This deposed queen attempted, unsuccessfully, to save her islands from annexation. The queen was a gifted musical composer and lived out the remainder of her life improving the conditions of the poor. Queen Lydia Lili`uokalani, deeply loved and respected by her people, died in 1917.
